We need to stop using pesticides!

ecosystem

We don’t use pesticides because they’re troublesome. Although there were some pest damages, crops were still growing decently. However, recently, pest damage has become significant, resulting in the production of vegetables with pitiful appearances.

I feel like the ecological balance between vegetables, pests, and their natural enemies is starting to deteriorate. (But is it just an excuse for poor farming skills?)
I have acquaintances who farm in mountainous areas, and they seem to have no issues with crops even without pesticides. I wonder if the ecological balance is being maintained there.

An example of a potato.

A sight of countless holes, there’s nothing left to do but eat it myself.

“Maybe it’s being eaten by Mole cricket? When I dug up the potatoes, I didn’t see any mole enemies of the Mole cricket(no holes), or weevils.”

An example of cabbage.

A double punch of caterpillars and slugs.

The cabbage worms—natural enemies like the parasitic wasps and the ichneumon wasps—are decreasing. When cabbage is eaten by cabbage worms, it releases chemicals from the cut to attract parasitic wasps for help, but unfortunately, the allies of justice don’t come. Perhaps it’s normal for information exchange through chemicals.

Slugs—unlike in the past, small slugs are resilient pests that survive even in winter. I hardly ever see larger native species anymore.
