Until just recently, I was complaining about the hot weather and lack of rain even though it’s autumn, but suddenly the climate has shifted to a winter pattern with constant rain. I wanted to use the tractor to till the soil and plant garlic, but the ground is too wet. It won’t dry out unless we have three consecutive sunny days. Somehow, I need to plant before mid-October! The cluster amaryllis flowers also began blooming 10 days later than usual, starting after the equinoctial week.
Due to this year’s intense heat and low rainfall, various crops have been affected. Even the taro and sweet potatoes, which are ready for harvest, are not growing well. And now, even the cherries are blooming irregularly at this late stage.

Harvest time is almost here, but they’ve only grown to about half the usual height, around 1 meter. The taro also seem small.

We grow three varieties of sweet potatoes: Beni Haruka, Anno Imo, and Purple Sweet Potatoes. Normally, each plant yields around five potatoes, but in our trial digging, we only found about one per plant.

These sweet potatoes are also grown by Mr. M, who is a believer in vertical cultivation and grows everything towards the sky. It might seem a bit eccentric, but we’re looking forward to seeing the results!
