Mid-May is a good time for plants as the soil temperature is just about 15°C (59°F). We plant just before it rains. I use 5 weather forecast apps and play with the weather.
Planting summer vegetables
Planting arrangements are
(1) Fertilizer (original fertilizer) and bamboo charcoal application
(2) Cultivation by tractor
(3) Plowing ridges with a mame-tractor
(4) Clean the ridges with a rake
(5) Change from black mulch to grass mulch (mowing is very difficult)
(6) Planting summer vegetables
(7) Putting up support poles
It is quite hard work.

Planted summer vegetables
Tomatoes (Momotaro, Aiko, Ruby, etc.), eggplants (water eggplant, Maru eggplant, Juzen eggplant) in the usual standard way,
Cucumbers, Nanban (mild and hot), pumpkins, and watermelons (large and small) are planted in a flurry.
In addition, edamame (green soybeans) and corn will be sown, and water string will be put up to prevent bird damage. We were also busy taking cuttings of edible chrysanthemums for the fall.

Vegetables in season now
Vegetables in season now are young onions (leaf to ball), quinces, pak choi, and garlic sprouts.

Lunch is stir-fried vegetables with onions, quinoa pods, pak choi, and garlic sprouts. Delicious straight from the garden.
