The work of the fava beans is finished!

farming

It was a seven-month growing season after the seeds were sown last November.
This year’s changes are.

  • As with peas, instead of using a tunnel with holes for overwintering, I put bamboo grass next to the seedlings to protect them from snow and frost damage. I feel that this unwise overwintering measure was effective.
  • I observed changes in two 30-meter rows with and without black mulch. Naturally, I thought the black mulch would grow better, but there was almost no difference.
  • I will not mulch any more.
In past years, dried fava beans were only used for seeds and for roasted beans on the wood stove (quite tasty), but this year, a cooking expert in Tokyo is planning to make soy bean sauce with dried fava beans.
